Daily Makeover, the online authoritative source for the latest in beauty and skin care, compiled a list of skincare products that can be found at your local drugstore for under $20. Daily Makeover writer, Victoria Moorhouse, begins the article ” Beauty products don’t have to cost a ton of cash in order for them to work” explains Daily Makeover, and sought out a leading NYC Dermatologist to find out which drugstore skin care products work best. “We went to Dr. Hadley King, MD, dermatologist at SKINNEY Medspa in New York City, to get her opinions on the best drugstore skin care products out there
According to Dr. Hadley King the “quality, effectiveness, and ingredients” between expensive, name brand beauty products, and their less expensive drug store equivalents is not that different. The major differences in expensive and less expensive beauty products is “more in the marketing and packaging,” says Daily Makeover.
Dr. King notes one exception to this: “if you want stronger anti-aging results from something like a retinoid, you should consult your derm for a prescription.” So besides prescription retinoid, here is Dr. Hadley King’s list of favorite beauty products when shopping on the cheap.*
Great for Dry Skin: Eucerin Professional Repair
This comon drugstore lotion is under $10 and perfect for treating dry winter skin. Dr. King explains “The ingredients include both emollients as well as urea and lactic acid,” she explains. “This means that the lotion both moisturizes and exfoliates—effectively allowing the moisture to penetrate more deeply into the skin layers and helping to remove the dead skin layers that can dull the surface.”

Great for Exfoliating: Instrumental Beauty Sonic Touch
Exfoliating is an essential part of good skin hygiene, but it’s important to do it correctly, using the proper tools and skin care products. An inexpensive exfoliation brush that Dr. Hadley King recomends is the Sonic Touch Cleansing System from sonic beauty. “Dr. King says that you can use it twice a day. She recomends using it with a creamy or foaming cleansing, but notes you should avoid using it with an exfoliating wash, which could potentially damage the silicone.”*
Exfoliating is great for maintaining healthy skin, but for treating adult acne, a professional facial from a reputable laser and skin spa is recomended.
