New CoolSculpting Applicator Scientifically Proven to Reduce Upper Arm Fat
CoolSculpting is the non-invasive fat reduction treatment that uses controlled cooling to reduce stubborn fat deposits. First introduced to US markets in 2010, CoolSculpting was FDA cleared to reduce fat from the abdomen and flank areas.
CoolSculpting works because of Cryolipolysis, which proves that fat cells are more vulnerable to cold than skin cells, and therefore fat cells freeze at temperatures that skin cells can comfortably withstand.
How CoolSculpting Works
During a CoolSculpting treatment, a handheld device, or applicator, is placed on top of the skin at the treatment area. A gentle vacuum mechanism stabilizes the treatment area in between two cooling plates found within the applicator. The cooling plates expose subcutaneous fat to freezing temperatures, effectively crystallizing the underlying fat cells, without harming the surrounding skin or tissue. Crystallized fat cells trigger apoptosis, or cellular death, and are gradually metabolized by the body and excreted as waste over the course of several weeks. This results in a visible, natural looking reduction in fat. Clinical studies measuring the efficacy of CoolSculpting on the belly reported an average of 25% reduction in fat from the treatment area.
CoolSculpting Other Problem Areas
Impressive cool sculpting results and surging popularity motivated Zeltiq, the makers of CoolSculpting, to design other applicators that could effectively reduce fat from other “problem areas” where stubborn fat deposits tend to form.
A variety of cool sculpting applicators, differing in shape and size can now reduce fat from the inner thighs, the chest area (a popular treatment area among men, who want to get rid of man boobs,) and the back. A flat CoolSculpting applicator made it possible to reduce fat from the outer thighs. And a small CoolSculpting applicator can be used to treat small problem areas such as submental fat, comonly known as a double chin, armpit fat, comonly known as bra bulge, and even the pockets of fat that form above the knees.

The Newest Applicator: The CoolCup for Reducing Upper Arm Fat
Now Zeltiq has announced their newest CoolSculpting applicator, the CoolPetite. The CoolPetite is specifically designed to reduce fat from the upper arm area. While many CoolSculpting providers have been treating upper arm fat with off label use of other CoolSculpting applicators, the new CoolPetite can drastically reduce treatment time, down to as little as 35 minutes, and provides a more custom fit for even better results.
What Causes Upper Arm Fat?
The upper arms are notorious for collecting stubborn fat deposits that get pulled down by gravity and earn demeaning nicknames like arm flab or chicken wings. Upper arm fat is particularly troublesome for women. The upper arms are part of the major fat deposit trifecta in women. “Female bodies comonly store fat in their thighs, hips and upper arms” explains Adriana Martino, the leading CoolSculpting NYC provider at SKINNEY Medspa. Does the CoolCup Work? The Science says yes!
One clinical study published in July 2017 in the journal of Dermatologic Surgery examined the safety of the new CoolCup applicator and its efficacy at reducing stubborn arm fat.
The authors of “Cryolipolysis for Reduction of Arm Fat: Safety and Efficacy of a Prototype CoolCup Applicator With Flat Contour” introduce the CoolPetite applicator saying it was “designed to maximize tissue contact with the cooling surface to improve comfort, while reducing treatment time by 25 minutes.” The study included 30 women who received CoolSculpting using the CoolPetite applicator on both arms. The reduction of fat layers was measured by ultrasound and the visual reduction of fat was evaluated with CoolSculpting before and after pictures.
CoolSculpting Results on Reducing Upper Arm Fat
12 weeks after the CoolSculpting treatment using the CoolPetite to reduce upper arm fat, the CoolSculpting results were measured. The researchers reported that CoolSculpting effectively reduced upper arm fat by an average of 3.2mm. Furthermore, nearly 90% of study participants had a noticeable reduction in upper arm fat visible in before and after pictures. The study concluded “these data suggest that the CoolCup prototype applicator provides rapid, safe, and effective arm treatment.”
